Backyard Bible Clubs |
Pray
-
Ask God to burden the hearts of church members to host and lead backyard Bible clubs at their homes. -
Pray for God to draw children to Himself as they hear Bible stories, learn scriptures and receive affirmation from children's workers. -
Pray for opportunities to meet their family members and discover other needs to which you can respond. Focus
-
Determine the number of locations you can use as host sites (remember local parks work well and have high visibility)
-
Will you need to request a short term mission team to help you?
-
What age groups will you target? -
Which families in your church have school-aged children?
Recruit
-
Talk with parents who have children at home
-
Provide children with opportunities to share during your weekly services (they can sing a song, recite a verse or introduce a friend they brought to church)
-
Post sign up sheets to host and help around your church
-
Hold a planning meeting to demonstrate what will happen, the materials you will use, etc
-
Have children's Sunday School classes outside the week before your Bible School to raise awareness
-
Ask for volunteers who have a heart for kids to coordinate crafts, storytime, recreation, refreshments and registration
Promote
-
Create eye-catching flyers and post them in prominent areas in your community (public pools, parks, schools, grocery stores, libraries, etc)
-
Design colorful posters to show the way to your site. Use wooden stakes and place signs along your site boundaries, use helium balloons the day before to increase excitement
-
Contact your local paper and radio station and ask to have your event advertised as a community event or public service announcement, many times these are free community services.
Impact the Next Generation!
-
Set up a registration table with registration cards, name tags and church information
-
As children arrive, play short games with them while other children are arriving and registering
-
Welcome each child individually, play name games to familiarize children with each other
-
Tell a Bible story and share a Scripture verse
-
Help children make a craft to take home with them related to the story
-
Play games together and enjoy refreshments
-
Encourage kids to return with a friend at the next meeting
Follow Through
-
Invite each child to your church. Tell them about what their Sunday School class and other children's activities are like, provide directions they can take home to their parents along with church information
-
Provide each child with an easy-to-read Bible and tract containing the plan of salvation to take home with them
-
Plan something special on your final day to motivate kids to bring friends and family members
