First Letter

Dear Pastor, Sunday School Worker, Discipleship Leader or Evangelism Leader.

In today’s world, being intentional is the name of the game. It seems that there is no goal that can be reached unless you are intentional about getting there. I find it is the same with Evangelism. To do evangelism, you have to be intentional, or it usually just does not happen! Being intentional means being prepared for whatever God is doing and prepared for what He brings your way. You have to be open to the Spirit’s leading, you must be prepared, and most of the time you must do some planning. Good preparation takes good planning.

Before you can be strategic and intentional about reaching people with the gospel of Christ, you must reaffirm the purpose of your church. Without emphasis on evangelism that Jesus laid out for us in the Great Commission, our church services become mere gatherings.

Therefore, I would like to propose a strategy that could help you and your church to be intentional in your plans for evangelism. It will involve four emphasis Sundays during the next year, and it is my hope that it will help you to motivate your church to be intentional about evangelism.

The first Sunday will be September 24, 2006 and will involve the supplying of the Gospel of John with attractive covers by The Pocket Testament League to your church members, and then instructing them, perhaps during the morning service, how they can use this as a tool for evangelism during the week. Imagine the impact that your church could have on its community if every member would participate to share Jesus with someone. I can see the Lord blessing that kind of intentionality.

Pocket Testament Sunday will kick off a cycle of emphasis. Every quarter will feature a different strategy to reach outside of the walls of your church and help your people to witness to those around them. This is about getting your people involved in sharing.

I will be sending you details on how to become involved and how to secure the Pocket Testaments in the next month, as well as the contact information for The Pocket Testament League. I hope you will pray with me about this, and become involved this year in intentional evangelism.

Keep Sharing Jesus,

Doug
