With Great Commission Passion

I wake up every day thanking God for bringing me to Montana. As I get to know our state I am reminded that we are serving in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

I was discussing this with one of our pastors recently and he reminded me that the beauty of the Montana landscape also brings incredible challenges and opportunities.

He is right! Our Montana churches face many challenges and opportunities every week. But that is why we are here – because of the challenges and because we see the many opportunities. Who among us would choose to serve in a place that lacks challenge, an easy ministry, where we did not have to depend on the power of God to meet our needs? How boring that would be! We would become self-sufficient rather than God-dependant. I have been to churches like that and, indeed they are boring, dull and have a self-sufficient spirit. I believe that we are all here because God wired us as people who will not shrink when facing a challenge. We like it and even thrive on it.

I also believe that we are serving in Montana because we see the potential – the God-sized opportunities. We have a God-given vision of what Montana churches could be. We see strong MTSBC churches throughout Montana spiritually impacting their community and beyond.

There is nothing more powerful or influential than the church – when the church is doing what God created her to do! That means we can face every challenge and embrace every opportunity with absolute assurance that we will be victorious as we seek to achieve the Great Commission in Montana.

I am working closely with our Associational Missionaries, MTSBC staff and Executive Board leaders as we begin to “Rethink Everything” in terms of the Great Commission.

My prayer for 2008 is that we will catch a fresh vision and renewed passion for the Great Commission. There is wisdom in a multitude of counsel and we will rely on the input, experience and wisdom of Godly leaders throughout Montana as we form a new Great Commission strategy. Your strategic input and suggestions are welcomed.

I pray that you will continue to face your challenges and embrace your opportunities everyday as we strive to reach Montana for Christ.
