Celebration for Women 2008

Moonlit walks along streets littered with sidewalk cafés. Fountains
flowing with decadent chocolate, accompanied by the lightest of
pastries. The Eiffel tower, lit up with thousands of twinkling lights.
Perhaps these phrases, and others like them, transport you to a far off
place, sparkling in it’s European air of romance. But, if you were among
the 175 women who attended Celebration for Women this weekend, perhaps
these images hold for you a different meaning.
Friday
morning attendees came from all over the state to participate in this
year’s event. The theme for CW 2008 was
The
Love of a Lifetime,
and true to form, the event was one to remember. Emmanuel Baptist in
Billings, who kindly agreed to host, was decked out in all manner of
Parisian décor.
But
this event was not merely a celebration of romance in general, but a
recognition of the One who is every woman’s Truest Love. Tina Hutchison
returned to lead the worship, and Montana’s very own Pam Smith was
joined by Christine Hockin-Boyd of Texas WMU to lead the Bible studies.
Gail
Weeding of Jordan, Montana, had this to say about CW, “I’ve been a
Christian for many years, but big events like this just help to get your
faith built up, to identify with other Christian women… It’s fun! I
mean, you learn a lot, you get built up, but it’s also fun just being in
a big group of women. When women get together, they seem to kind of let
their hair down and have fun.”
When
asked what she would tell any woman who thus far has been hesitant to
attend CW, Carol Sattoriva of Great Falls, offered this, “If you want to
get a refilling of the Holy Spirit...all you need to do is come and just
be part of it. The Lord is with us, and we’re just having a marvelous
time.”
